The role of the case leader is to select 2-3 cases for discussion in the case study session. This is done  in advance of the class.  Where appropriate, the case leader should consult reference materials to become familiar with the context of the scenario and with any policies, guidelines, or laws that may pertain to it.  The case leader should introduce him- or herself to the class (department, student status, research interests) and read the case aloud.   Following a brief period for assimilation of the case, the leader then facilitates discussion of the it.  Techniques for doing this are discussed elsewhere on this site and in the text.  However, the case leader fulfills his or her primary obligation  by doing one of the following:

•     discussing the elements of the case and posing one or more solutions to it, immediately after reading it

                                                                        OR

•    providing a summary of the case discussion, including its analysis, and a succinct presentation of the solution or solutions.  The case leader may also add to or reject the solution(s) at this point (with justification, of course).

Throughout  the discussion of the case, the leader keeps the verbal analysis going and facilitates group participation by managing responses when they are numerous, or calling on classmates when they are not.
