Human Subjects Protection

On this page you will find instructions for accessing 2 separate on-line courses in human subjects protection.  One is the CITI training and the other is Responsible Conduct of Research internet instruction (RCR-i2) in the Use of Human Subjects short course.  If you do not use human subjects in your research, you may complete RCR-i2 in place of the CITI course.

Click here to access the RCR-i2 short course

To access the CITI courses:

·         Go to the IRB education link at http://www.research.vcu.edu/irb/education.htm

·         Go to “Registration for CITI” at the bottom of the page and follow the instructions for registration

·         Once registered, you must login to take the relevant courses:  http://www.citiprogram.org/

·         Each course is divided into modules.  Each module has text to read and a quiz to complete.  You do not need to complete all modules in one sitting.  You can login several times until all modules have been completed.

·         When all modules for a particular course are completed you will be able to print a certificate of completion.

Note:  To meet the RCR requirements for postdoctoral scholars you must complete either the Biomedical, or the Social and Behavioral CITI course modules depending upon your research area.

These courses should be completed within 30 days of the RCR workshop.   Once you have completed the human subjects protection training, send an email to Andrekia Branch (aebranch@vcu.edu) confirming the date of completion for the CITI training.  If you complete the Responsible Conduct of Research internet instruction (RCR-i2) short courses, please submit your answers to the discussion questions to Andrekia Branch (aebranch@vcu.edu).
