Animal Subjects Protection

On this page you will find instructions for accessing 2 separate on-line courses in animal subjects protection.  One is the AALAS Learning Library training and the other is Responsible Conduct of Research internet instruction (RCR-i²) in the Use of Animal Subjects short course.  If you do not use animal subjects in your research, you may complete RCR-i² in place of the AALAS course.

AALAS Learning Library Registration Instructions

 ·         Go to the AALAS Learning Library at http://www.aalaslearninglibrary.org/

·         Click "ENROLL NOW!" in the center of the page

·         Select "Join a Group" and click "continue"

·         Enter the access code "VCUIACUC" in the text field and click "continue"

·         Enter your personal information in the various fields.  NOTE:  Your username must be your VCUeID.  You will be prompted to enter a password of your choosing

·         Click "continue"

·         Enter your contact information in the various fields

·         Click “submit” and enrollment is complete

·         Login with your username and password

·         Click "Animal Care and Use Courses" on the right-hand side of the page

·         Select "Working with the VCU IACUC (for investigators)"  course under the heading Virginia Commonwealth University Tracks

·         Scroll to the bottom of the page and choose the "course" hyperlink

·         Choose the "exam" hyperlink once you complete the course

·         Once you complete the exam, print out a certificate of completion for your records

NOTE: If you are conducting research with animals, completion of the “Working with the VCU IACUC (for investigators)” course does not satisfy the full training requirements for individuals who will be performing animal procedures.  Those training requirements can be found at https://www.vcu.edu/research/iacuc/training.htm

These courses should be completed within 30 days of the RCR workshop.   Once you have completed the animal subjects protection training, send an email to Andrekia Branch (aebranch@vcu.edu) confirming the date of completion for the AALAS training.  If you complete the Responsible Conduct of Research internet instruction (RCR-i²) short course, please submit your answers to the discussion questions to Andrekia Branch (aebranch@vcu.edu).
