The PDF files offer a convenient (and printable) way to browse through the notes. Adobe Acrobat Reader is required and is available to download free. Note that the PDF files are presented in a textbook-style format and are quite different from the HTML version of the notes. Each of the above PDF chapter buttons leads to a single file that presents the entire chapter.
The modular HTML notes focus on individual concepts with graphical aids and examples and are the basis for the in-class lectures. The modules form a single sequence. Each of the above HTML "chapter" buttons jumps into the sequence at an appropriate place but the sequence itself ignores chapter boundaries.
The HTML notes are presented as a series of screen displays. Use the
button to move to the previous screen and the
button to move to the next screen. A title at the top of the screen will tell you which module you are in. The presentation moves seamlessly from one module to the next.
Throughout the HTML notes, you will find
buttons that lead to lists of multiple-choice questions on the material. You will also find
buttons that lead to discussions focused on the processes that have lead astronomers to their conclusions. Both the questions and the focused discussions open in new windows, which can be closed to return to the main level of the notes.
