Thursday, Sept. 24 Class Cancelled!
I am out with the flu, so we will be following our Flu Emergency Plan for that day.
Click on the link below to find out what happens if you are sick or class is cancelled because the instructor is sick:
Some of you are having the issue that is described in the following message from Zach Goodell at the Center for Teaching Effectiveness, so I am passing the message along (below).
To avoid penalizing students for this problem, I will extend the trial period for quiz grades by two classes so that only the highest of the first seven quizzes will count. All quiz grades after that count.
The biggest issue we are having this Fall with clickers is that some students are not able to successfully register their clicker yet they think they have because they get a confirmation email from einstruction that the payment was received. However, their clicker will not join during class so they go back into blackboard and try to re-register and they are brought to the payment screen where they are asked to pay again. Apparently, einstruction is having server issues (sound familiar)...nonetheless, students should not try to pay again. If this happens, they need to retrieve the confirmation email that they received from einstruction along with the confirmation number (begins with a v) and they should call einstruction tech support (below) and provide that confirmation number...einstruction will then give them an enrollment code that they can use to re-register their clicker through blackboard successfully. If they have been charged more than once then they need to demand that the funds be refunded. I know this is a pain but it is the only fix at the moment.

Note: The serial numbers for the RF clickers always start with the letter 'r'. You have to enter that letter as part of the serial number or it will not work.
Although most of our course material is here, on a public web site, I use a Blackboard web site for our Discussion Forum, for online testing, and for posting grades. The latest version of Blackboard will probably require you to change the way that your computer is set up. In particular, you will need to change your security setting to allow cookies and you will need to edit any favorites or shortcuts so that they just go to the URL:
button here or on our home page, you will be taken to Blackboard.
I rely on email to notify you of important changes. The new VCU email system will probably require you to make a number of changes in the way that your computer is set up. It is important that you make these changes because all of your instructors will be sending important messages to your VCU email address. For help with some of the most common difficulties, go to
