The University of Richmond's Writer's Web:  An online handbook that explores the various stages of writing an essay.  Highly useful and very complete as a resource.  Useful for both those who know what they're looking for and, perhaps, as a way for those who are confused to find direction.

Perdue University's Online Writing Lab (OWL):  This is another fantastic resource.  They have links about different resources concerning documentation, English as a Second Language, general writing concerns, grammar, etc.  A good source for strengthening your own writing.

MLA Online:  MLA is the Modern Language Association, and the documentation style most writers in an English field will use.  (This web site can seem confusing:  it's full of frames, rather than direct addresses.  Follow the link to "MLA Style," then look at the side frame to find what you're searching for.  Most of the useful information here will be about online citations; if you have questions about print sources, I recommend looking in a handbook)

General MLA guide:  This was created for Capital Community College in Hartford, Connecticut.  The MLA section is somewhat better organized than the APA section, but it helps to know what general thing you're looking for (documentation, using quotes, etc.)  They have examples of how to use proper MLA documentation for a variety of different sources.

APA Online:  APA is the American Psychological Association, and it offers specific guidelines (about documentation and about writing) for students in the field of behavioral sciences.  The main site isn't particularly useful or friendly for writers, but I'll list some other sites that writers might use as resources.

APA Electronic Sources:  From the University of Vermont
General APA guide:  This was created for Capital Community College in Hartford, Connecticut, so not all the information will apply to VCU students.  But it explains APA style through a question-and-answer format.  People who use this would be best served by having a particular question in mind.
