(Tree at Sam Lord's castle)

This listing of trees attempts to provide context for some of the vegetation found in the Caribbean, although the list is by no means exhaustive.  The included trees are ones that have been mentioned many times in different poems (such as the Flamboyant or Poinciana) or else that seemed extremely common in Barbados.  The trees in the Caribbean are different from anything found on North America, though some species grow also in the very southern tip of Florida.  The display of unknown leaves or flowers can seem very disconcerting if the reader (or visitor) is used to thinking in terms of maple, birch, dogwood.
