the informational website:

The major work of this course will be to design, compose, edit, test, and maintain a substantive website of online information that has a primary purpose of informing users about a topic, concept, product, service, process, or organization.  The term users for our purposes refers to those for whom the site is useful in their work. The topic may be literary, pedagogical, scholarly, or altogether unrelated to academic interests and pursuits.  An informational website of this sort draws for its features from online books, policy manuals, newsletters, literary works, user guides, knowledge bases, and magazines.

The informational website is to be distinguished from other online categories such as help, demonstration, marketing, tutorials/training, reference, or user support.

Criteria for evaluation of an informational web site may be help you throughout your process of creating, refining, and testing your own.

Examining a variety of sites that may fall into the category of "informational web sites" should prove useful.
