Grading Policies

Here is how much each aspect of the course will count in your final course grade.

Class participation will be graded on the quality of your preparation on daily assignments and your active participation in class discussions. Your participation grade will also be based on the thoughtfulness with which you respond to reflective assessments that are a part of the course. Quizzes will figure into your class participation grade.

Quizzes and tests will cover the material of the course, including the knowledge you gain from the textbooks and the daily assignments. Quizzes will be on assigned units in the Hacker textbook, for example B2. (Many quizzes will be given; 5 of your lowest scores will be dropped in computing your final grade.) Tests will cover a longer range of material, for example, vocabulary to date or punctuation to date.

Mid-term journal and final journal (the evidence of all your daily assignments to date) will be evaluated on their completeness and thoroughness in responding to the assignments.

Class participation 30%
Four Tests 40%
Mid-term Journal and Final Journal 30%

Final Grading Scale:
