Protect yourself when working with raw materials

work in a well ventilated area or use an exhaust system
wear a respirator (safer) or a dust mask (expect to pay around $45 for respirator, $3 for dust mask)
wear impervious (impenetrable) gloves
wear eye protection
wear work clothes reserved for handling raw materials
(avoid contact with eyes & skin, avoid breathing dust)

Proper handling will prevent problems

keep away from food, drink, & smoke
work wet- wipe spills, surfaces, tools, floors (no dust!)
stir with whisks, not your hands
remove work clothes when finished
wash hands with soap & water

Safe storage is essential

store materials separately in unbreakable, airtight, labeled containers
in a cool, dry place
away from children, animals, & unauthorized persons

Basic first aid in the event of exposure

remove soiled clothing
get fresh air
wash affected area with soap & water
if eyes, flush with running water
keep warm
if swallowed, call poison control
seek medical attention
