hazard description-
toxic physical properties- black odorless powder acute effects- irritant to skin, respiratory tract, mucous membranes & eyes symptoms of overexposure- ingestion may cause vomiting, gastric pain, dizziness, anemia, cramps, convulsions, shock, coma, and death may cause metal fume fever, hemolysis of red blood cells, & injury to liver, lungs, kidneys, & pancreas caution- the addition of copper to a food-safe, lead-bearing glaze will alter it so the glaze is no longer food safe. Copper and lead should not be used together in a dinnerware glaze, and copper should not be added to a glaze whose composition is unknown. Since copper volatizes during firing, it should not be fired with dinnerware. back to materials |
